ABOUT GCEN

Global Childbirth Educator Network exists to train, encourage, and provide continuing education for the childbirth educator or doula serving in their community or cross culturally. We want to offer high quality, thorough, and easy to understand information to equip those desiring to work or volunteer in the western world, as well as equip missionaries who are serving in poor, developing nations where maternal/infant morbidity is the highest.  Those serving full time or on a short term basis, can do so much to help pregnant women and their families. According to the World Health Organization, the world needs 300,000 more midwives and 100,000 maternal health workers (childbirth educators, doulas, etc.) to help save mothers and babies lives in the nations where outcomes are the worst. Join us to make a difference around the Globe!

OUR STAFF:

The founder of GCEN is Leslie Nabong, an American who has been serving on the mission field for ten years. She was a member and evaluator of the International Childbirth Education Assoc. for over twenty years and was also a trainer for DONA. She also practiced midwifery for a number of years in California and Texas. Her work gave her experience in hospital, birth center and homebirth settings. Leslie has combined all of her birth experience into the GCEN curriculum with the hopes of raising up highly skilled childbirth professionals who know WHAT to teach and HOW to teach! She currently resides in the Philippines.

Starr Knutson is a certified childbirth educator and doula with a heart to serve pregnant women in the US and developing nations. She has brought many of her skills that made her successful in the corporate world to developing the Childbirth Educator and Doula training program. Starr has taught internationally as well as in her home state of Hawaii. She is currently teaching at a maternity center in Kailua-Kona.
